Acupuncture originated in ancient China over 3,000 years ago as part of the holistic system of healing called Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). It is now widely accepted in Western culture.
Sterile, single-used, disposable needles are the standard practice, and the risks are very low if you choose a practitioner that has the proper training and credentials. Inserting a needle sends a signal through the nervous system to the brain, where chemicals such as endorphins, norepinephrine, oxytocin, and enkephalin are released. Acupuncture also promotes blood flow while stimulating the body’s built-in healing mechanisms. As the body heals the micro traumas induced by acupuncture, it heals any surrounding tissue damage left over from old injuries. Acupuncture also relaxes shortened muscles, and reduces stress; this is perhaps the most important systemic effect of acupuncture.
Acupuncture can also be combined with Microcurrent Electrical Therapy, which is an extensively researched microampere current that provides gentle and non-invasive electrical stimulation to your body through the acupuncture needles.

Moxibustion is a traditional Chinese therapy that was major part of the medical practice of ancient China. It is noted for having no side effects and is known as green therapy. It consists of burning dried Asian mugwort on particular parts of the body, directly or indirectly on the patient’s skin. The heat of moxibustion is different from the heat from other materials. As the moxa burns, it produces a special type of shortened infrared radiation. This can penetrate three to four times the depth of normal infrared radiation, such that it can effectively activate protein complexes to promote cell growth and enhance the immune system.
Since Oregon has so many rainy days, and the weather is slightly cold, moxibustion treatment is one of the most effective ways to treat pain in the neck, shoulders, back, and joints, as well as fatigue, depression, and cold hands and feet. Cupping is an ancient therapy in which a practitioner puts special cups on your skin for a few minutes. At our clinic, we use fire to create some suction before the practitioner puts them on your skin, so you often feel a slightly warm sensation. There are different treatment techniques, including stationary cupping, moving cupping, and peaking cupping; the practitioner will decide which one is the best fit for you after she gets to know your body constitution. The cupping suction and negative pressure can loosen muscles, encourage blood flow, and sedate the nervous system. Cupping produces red marks, almost like bruises. The marks left are part of the healing process and will disappear in 3 to 7 days.
Cupping is an excellent treatment to relieve back and neck pain, stiff muscles, anxiety, fatigue, migraines, rheumatism, and high blood pressure. If you have any of these conditions, we are here for you.
